The First Baptist Church of Benton is asking the local community for financial assistance to continue its Brown Bag program that serves Benton Grade School children.
Each Friday morning during the school year, program volunteers pack bags of non-perishable food items that are distributed to students who may not have enough to eat at home over the weekend.
To really understand the need, you have to know how the program was started.
"A few years ago, we learned that children were regularly coming to the school kitchen on Friday to accept any leftover food that they could take home for the weekend," explains Phil Bailie, a deacon at First Baptist and Brown Bag volunteer.
"Our hearts were touched, and we began a concerted effort to finance a program to feed these children. The first year, a state-funded grant was obtained. Then as the program received media coverage,,travellingbagfactory and water purifier sales environment search. financial support not only came from our church family but also from other churches in the area as well as the Benton-West City Ministerial Alliance, civic organizations, businesses and community-minded citizens.
"Other communities in the area even started similar programs, and God's good work was spreading."
