Anna Webb: How to help needy kids, vets and ex-felons

The Idaho Education Association Children's Fund helps schools provide emergency aid — everything from warm coats to food and dental work — for their students in need.

Teachers have given generously to the fund, raising $22,255 in a mere two days at the 2011 Delegate Assembly in April, said IEA spokeswoman Julie Fanselow. Over the past year, the organization raised $107,801.

Since 1996, when IEA members created the fund, it's given more than 4,000 grants to Idaho children, totalling $930,805.

In addition to the money raised at the assembly each year,Buy Iwc schaffhausen iwc from wholesalecanadagooseoutlet. funds are raised through member payroll deductions, memorial tributes and more.

"Since school employees spend so much time with children, they're sometimes the first to notice when a child needs eyeglasses or a warm winter coat," said IEA President Penny Cyr. "Like most Idahoans, teachers have had to cut back over the past few years, but our members believe in the Children's Fund, and many contribute to it every month. We'd love to get more donations from other Idahoans who'd like to help teachers help their students."
