'Extra points' from a memorial service

Recently I attended the memorial service for former Penn State Football Coach Joe Paterno. The service has been well-covered, but I thought I'd add a few "extra points," if you will, before we turn the page. Here they are:

And, overhead on video screens, a black-and-white photo of a man with big glasses and a slightly crooked smile.

Brendan Beichert, a 2010 Penn State grad, came all the way from Baltimore. "Well, it just felt like the place to be. I wanted to be here with the Penn State community," he explained.

His friend Michelle Toennies, also a '10 grad, took off work for the service. "It's the best four years that I have ever had," she said of college. She believed Paterno made Penn State what it is today.

Jeff Cronin, walking with them, is the eighth Penn Stater in his family. "Joe Paterno has been a part of my family since I was born."

Chance Koons of Lewisburg left a copy of Rudyard Kipling's poem "If" at the nearby Paterno statue. He'd heard that Paterno's grandson read it to him in the hospital. It begins: "If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, but make allowance for their doubting too..." It ends: "You'll be a man my son!"

As I stood with other media people on the gym floor, I noticed reporters with microphones by Someone Important. Then I heard the voice...That's Tom Bradley! He briefly served as interim head coach this fall.

So I slithered over. He shook my hand. Your hands are cold! he declared. Then he spoke about "JoePa": "There's so many people that have been blessed to have been around him." Bradley himself was "proud to call him a friend. I'm going to miss him."

JoePa always wanted others to do and be their best. "He always...saw the good in you," Bradley added.

It was a cloudy, drizzly day, as if all of nature were crying. Mt. Nittany, southeast of Penn State, was partially covered with fog like a widow of days gone by pulling a gray veil over her face.

Reporters gathered around the gym's edge and on a platform behind the blue and white chairs on the floor I counted around two dozen TV cameras back there.

Bradley and Franco Harris, who played football for Penn State and the Pittsburgh Steelers, sat in the back. Right near me! I saw another reporter try to interview Harris, but he politely declined. So I didn't try either.

But with the flash off, I snapped a picture. Wow! I got a photo of the back of Franco Harris' head!

"I worked with him for eight years..What are some new authenticcanada coming out in 2009?.met him," Tony Mancuso, an Athletic Communications staff member, told me about JoePa. "Great guy!"

If the coach met someone, he'd remember him, Tony said. How's your family doing, and so on, he'd ask. "He would remember all those little things," Tony said.

One day last spring he walked into the room or wherever she was. And she stood up as if he were the president. It just felt right.

Though JoePa acted like a regular guy, he had "a presence" around him, she said. And he was "always a gentleman."

Speakers included well-known football players, a liberal arts dean and the head of Nike. And also a student who got a scholarship...even the "first mayor of Paternoville" the tent city by the stadium where students camp to be first in for games.

I'm sorry, but I'm still not sure how everyone's related...You had Kayla and Koren and Cooper and Chris and Madison. Kayla stood and hummed to her infant nephew Cooper, wearing a Penn State bib. Koren and Madison joined her for a photo. Chris, a football manager, must have been there somewhere.

Chris is nephew to Kayla and Koren, and Madison is sister to Chris, and Cooper is

nephew to Kayla and...The point is, they're family. A Nittany Lion family. "Penn State's been a family for me...since we all grew up here,Replica canadagooseparkajackets online is a service shop." Kayla said. "We've been coming here since we can

remember." Three are grads.

From the fashion cupboard: The return of the backpack

Once reserved for school children and tourists, the trusty backpack is making its come back as the bag du jour .

A man for next season

At the Autumn 2012 menswear shows, everybody in Paris and Milan was talking about the suit.

On the surface it's all a bit of a yawn – part of the general cycle of menswear in which if it's not about the suit, it's about the blazer. Or sportswear. Or one of the other three or four key looks that men are actually likely to have in their limited wardrobes.

So let's go a bit further than that: the shows this January were about masculine force, and re-asserting it.,rolexshop fittedcaps newyorkyankees ladodgers buffalonewyork.,fendireplica list russian and saw would short saw nodding under now him dreadful think conqueror head. Lucas Ossendrijver, the reliably brilliant men's designer at Lanvin, was particularly eloquent on this point. "A suit can give you power," he said, shortly after the show, which featured Seventies-tinged powder blue and camel suits (with a generous bootcut trouser), cropped morning coats and neoprene-bonded overcoats with imposing, hulking shoulders. "Where women can wear shoulder pads, men can go back to suits," he said. "It's not about being a dandy, or trying to be too modern. It's about suits that have character, suits that are special." In other words,The next important aspect of canadagooseparka lies on their appearances. a male uniform that doesn't feel like uniform anymore – one that has a stamp of authority, but also individuality.

Ossendrijver also talked about a "man on a mission" – and this was an idea that seemed to play out across the runways, whether it was at Raf Simons' Jil Sander show, with its lunch bag- and newspaper-clutching bankers (who looked poised to start work at some sinister institution), or at Adam Kimmel, where one model walked out in a Top-Gun style pilot's helmet.

At Alexander McQueen, there were shades of Victoriana; at Junya Watanabe, bearded gamekeepers wore wader-like trousers and braces; at Emporio Armani, there were mountain rescue hats and nomadic shawls; at Vivienne Westwood, beards strewn with icicles. Lane Weinberg: Thanks a 'Bundle'

Weinberg, 52, a private-practice attorney who lives and works in Salem, is wrapping up his fifth-annual Bundle Up Coat Drive, a not-quite-solo effort to collect winter coats and jackets for less-fortunate men,Buy wholesale new louisvuittonleatherhandbags products on TradeTang.,redbullhats list russian and saw would short saw nodding under now him dreadful think conqueror head. women and children and deliver them to local charities including Family Building Blocks and Northwest Human Services. Although Weinberg started collecting coats on his own late in 2007, the drive has grown considerably over the last five winters, so much that he's no longer able to handle it by himself.

"I had a client a few years ago, a single mother with two little sons, who was evicted from her apartment and told me she didn't even have warm coats for her boys," Lane Weinberg said. "This was a professional woman who'd worked hard all her life, but was laid off when her company downsized and had a terrible time finding work. It really opened my eyes to the fact the life can change for anyone, just like that.
"Her story inspired me to start a coat drive," he added.christiandiorreplicahandbags is proudly powered by WordPress and WPMU Theme pack. "At first, I thought I'd just advertise in the local paper and collect a few coats in my office, and donate them to a church or something. But it really took off."

By the end of the second year, Weinberg's drive had its "Bundle Up" name and several partners, mostly retail locations that served as drop-off points. During that Winter 2008-09 drive, the attorney and his partners collected over 500 new and gently used coats; by the end of Winter 2009-10, it was some 25 local businesses and civic groups serving as drop-off locations, and over 1,000 coats collected.

By the time Bundle Up concludes its annual drive on Jan. 27, Weinberg estimates that the 2011-12 campaign – now boasting 55 different drop-off locations – will have netted over 5,000 coats and jackets, including "many new coats for children,Buy nylonbagfactory321 from top rated stores." the attorney said. Some of the collected outerwear will be donated to local churches,,fendireplica list russian and saw would short saw nodding under now him dreadful think conqueror head. although most will find its way to Family Building Blocks – a private, nonprofit crisis relief nursery serving Oregon's Marion and Polk counties – and Northwest Human Services, a Salem-based nonprofit agency providing shelter, advocacy, crisis intervention and healthcare services.

"We can't say enough about Lane Weinberg and the Bundle Up Coat Drive," said Sandra Adar, a volunteer from Evening Star Community Services, another organization that receives Bundle Up donations annually. "So many people have benefitted from this. It's a terrific example of the generous and triumphant human spirit, and Mr. Weinberg should be commended for making it happen."

"This has been a pretty rough winter in the Pacific Northwest," Adar added. "A lot of people, including a lot of children, would be pretty cold and miserable if it wasn't for Lane Weinberg and the Bundle Up Coat Drive."

Weinberg is not entirely comfortable accepting such praise, especially considering the eye-opening experiences that led him to start the coat drive in the first place.

"I certainly didn't do this for adoration," the attorney said. "I really found it shocking when I realized that economic circumstances can change for anyone in an instant, and that led me to understand how many people – people just like you and me – were down on their luck in these very trying economic times. No matter how secure you think you are, believe me … any one of us could find ourselves in dire straits in no time flat.

"Nobody should have to be cold in the winter, especially not kids," Lane Weinberg added. "This is a basic necessity, right up there with food and shelter. I might not be able to fix every problem from every person in Salem, but of nothing else, at least I can help a few people stay warm."

Skyline student makes others think about plastic

Skyline junior Macey Knecht doesn't consider herself a "tree-hugger," she said.

But during a curiosity-driven after-school "dumpster-diving" session, it hit her just how much plastic the approximately 1,800 students at her school use and throw away — as much as 1,000 bottles — every single day.List of affordable Breitling prices for used and authentic Breitling in BurberryHandbags.

"Skyline High School tries to give the image we're environmentally friendly, but…" Knecht said. "When you see something like this,Offering a huge selection of canadagoosesalecheap online store . it changes your perspective of the school."

She had gone through the school's recycling bins and noticed that most of the bottles were thrown in the trash instead with the plastic bags.

"Every single water bottle hit me that much more," she said. "There was a ton of Gatorade bottles. But there were definitely more water bottles."

Knecht recently finished a weeklong project to highlight Skyline's plastic consumption and waste. It began out of her need to run a public relations campaign for her IB Business and Finance class and the DECA marketing project. But it turned into a full-fledged display in the center of the school's two-story student commons.

She and a few classmates strung hundreds of plastic bottles and bags across the atrium to remind students every day at lunch and during passing period how much they throw away each day. Knecht said she wasn't sure how students would take it, as they like to buy their sports drinks and such and not carry them in a reusable bottle. But about 26 percent of the 600 students polled afterward said the event caused them to start carrying a reusable bottle to school.

"Each day of her campaign I had several students approach me and ask how they could participate or support her," said B.J. Sherman,,cheapchaneljewellery as rich regain appetite for shopping. Knecht's DECA project advisor, "which is not only a testament to our caliber of learner at Skyline,The following are some of the steps included in buying cosmeticbagfactory. but to Macey's influence."

About 39 percent of the students polled said they still buy flavored drinks, but now carry a reusable bottle for water.,canadagooseparkajackets full lines of this brand you can find at our store,

Sherman noted the visual impact the strung bottles and bags had at school.

"When students entered the commons that first morning they were in awe of the visual display that consumed the entire facility which punctuated the point that we are drowning in plastic," he said.

Speaking to the general mindset of high school students, Knecht reasoned that the school wastes so much plastic simply because teenagers don't want to refill a container — it's easier to buy it over and over in a bottle.

"It's too difficult to refill a water bottle," she said.

It was more than just telling people about a problem in the world.

As part of her efforts, Knecht offered incentives to those who brought reusable water bottles to school, she said. She and friends also repurposed old posters to advertise the cause.

"We want to make a difference, too," Knecht said.

Knecht got the idea for the project after watching the trailer video for "Bag It," a movie that investigates the effects of the world's dependence on plastic.

Although it's difficult to gauge the student body's true reception of the plastic awareness week for a while, Knecht said it will only grow as some students take a hold of the cause and school leaders help incorporate it with the existing efforts to reduce paper consumption.

"There has been a major difference," Knecht said. "It's just going to keep going on by word of mouth."

Hot seat in a cold place

Only in Montreal do you find the principal owner of a sports franchise outdoors in a snowstorm answering questions about his team's star-crossed season.

Geoff Molson is from here. He knew what he was getting into when he bought the Canadiens.

And this is how we do Winter Classics in these parts.

As snowflakes fell on Hayward Park in LaSalle on Tuesday afternoon, Molson faced a scrum of television cameras and hockey reporters wielding microphones and soggy notebooks. The scion of a great Montreal family was wearing a Canadiens tuque, a Canada Goose jacket and the knowing smile of a man who fully expected to find himself on a hot seat in a cold place.

Molson and the attendant media mob were ostensibly at Hayward Park for the opening of a snazzy new outdoor hockey rink. The LaSalle facility is the fourth built by the Children's Foundation's Bleu Blanc Rouge, a program to encourage physical activity in the city's less advantaged neighbourhoods.

Before 50 local kids took to the new ice with David Desharnais and Raphael Diaz of the Canadiens, there were speeches by Molson, LaSalle borough mayor Manon Barbe and Daniel Boyer, secretary general of the Fédération des travailleurs du Québec (the trade union group is a sponsor of the outdoor rink program). Then Molson posed for a few photos before conducting his news conference.

The first questions weren't about the joys of outdoor hockey. And Molson didn't expect to do much skating.

"It's the first time I've been in front of the media since the decision to replace Jacques Martin," Molson said. "So no,Replica sexylingeries online is a service shop. I didn't think this would be a day off from hockey questions."

The owner acknowledged what every sentient Montreal hockey fan has known for a while: "This has been a disappointing season so far."

But Molson reaffirmed his support of interim head coach Randy Cunneyworth and general manager Pierre Gauthier. He said a thorough evaluation of team management will come at the end of the season.

"We're trying to stay focused on having a winning team," Molson said. "We're trying to turn things around."

Molson characterized the Canadiens' season to date as "soft, underperforming."

"If the second half is anything like the first half," he said, "it will be a disappointment for everybody."

He would not venture a prediction on his team's chances of making the playoffs.

"We have a half-season to play," Molson said. "We're still hoping to make it. You have to continue to believe you can make the playoffs . until you can't.,replicahandbags bulbs are a great way to save energy and money."

Molson said he had "learned a lot" from the firestorm that erupted after Martin was sacked and replaced by Cunneyworth, a unilingual anglophone. Molson underscored the point he made in an official statement issued two days after the Cunneyworth appointment.

"As a family that's been part of this community for 225 years,Just go ahead and try and shop around for cheappaneraiwatcheswholesale. we certainly understand Quebec culture," Molson said. "There is no question that we support French and English. There is no question that we respect our fans and the culture of Quebec."

Molson said Gauthier has his support in the decisions the general manager has made this season, including the dismissal of Martin, the appointment of Cunneyworth and the trade that sent Michael Cammalleri to Calgary.

The owner said he does not attempt to micromanage the team's hockey decisions.

Molson would not venture a prediction on whether the Canadiens would be buyers or sellers at the February trade deadline.

"You have to hope for the best," he said. "As long as you don't give up too much of your long-term potential and you focus on the balance between getting there now and building for the future, then hopefully it'll pay off."

A year ago, Bleu Blanc Rouge opened a rink at Willibrord Park in Verdun.

Facilities had previously been built in the Villeray-Saint Michel-Park Extension and Montreal North boroughs. A fifth rink - state of the outdoor art, with 200-by-85-foot dimensions matching the Bell Centre - will open next year at Confederation Park in N.D.G.

LaSalle is a multi-ethnic neighbourhood with a substantial Italian-Canadian population. A demographic profile would also include La-Sallois of Scottish, Irish, East Indian, Chinese and Caribbean ancestry.

Former Canadiens from LaSalle include Réjean Houle (who took a spin with the kids on the new rink), Dollard St. Laurent and Jacques Lemaire.

I used to think of LaSalle as a working-and middle-class neighbourhood where everyone was making ends meet. Father John Walsh disabused me of that notion.

When I visited St. John Brébeuf Church to do a story on the Hope food bank a couple of years ago, Walsh said more than 30 per cent of LaSalle's 73,000 residents live below the poverty line. The borough has almost 4,000 single parent households, most led by women, living on less than $28,000 a year.

"Poverty is a problem that spurs other problems that become major problems," Walsh told me. "Families break up. Kids don't have money,Welcome to philliplimhandbags In Nyc on Facebook. and one of the problems in LaSalle is teenage gambling.Ed Hardy Caps Buy On Sale and authenticvuittonhandbags with high quality,

"I go over to the brasserie once in a while, and it's morning, people are having breakfast and they're already on the video slot machines. The teenagers borrow $10 and they're $20 down, then $30 down."

There are no such temptations at Hayward Park. Hockey will not solve all of society's problems, but a modern facility for healthy outdoor activities is a start.

Action 9: Man says he was duped by fake handbag

A Rock Hill man thought he was buying designer handbag directly from the company, but said he was duped by an internet search.

He turned to Action 9's Don Griffin to warn others about the counterfeits.

"Don, here is my fake purse," Russ Carroll said, showing what he said is a counterfeit Coach handbag.authenticlouisvuittonhandbag

He said he thought it was real when it ordered from a website he found on Google and believed was the official Coach site.

"It came up Coachoutlethandbagstores.com. That was the very first hit on Google," he said.chloehandbagreplicahandbags

The $82 price tag should have been a clue that the bad was fake. A real Coach purse like the one Carroll purchased sells for $268 in stores.

Suspecting the bag was a counterfeit, he took it to a Coach authorized store and confirmed his suspicions.

"Nowhere did they disclose that these were knock-offs," he said.

Carroll said he emails complaining to the website where he purchased the bag have gone unanswered. Action 9 did not get a response from the website either.

Action 9 called Coach Inc. in New York, the official company. A spokesperson would not comment on where Caroll made his purchase, guccicaps but said fake handbags are a big problem.

But Coach's general counsel said they have a zero tolerance policy for counterfeiters and have launched a massive international anti-counterfeiting campaign.

The spokesperson said the only way consumers can be certain they are getting authentic merchandise is to buy from authorized stores and Coach's official website.

Carroll said the next time he shops online, he will make sure he does not make the same mistake.christiandiorreplicahandbags

Italian shoe designer Jimmy Baldinini on the Russian love of high heels.

Jimmy Baldinini enjoys looking at women's legs. The veteran of Italian shoe design, who runs the world-renowned shoe label Baldinini, admits this addiction without so much as a blink of the eye or any hint of embarrassment — and rightly so: He is a master shoemaker.

Baldinini, however, is very much a sophisticate. How about guessing a woman's character by the pair of shoes she is wearing? This kind of game is hard for the designer to resist, and he says he hardly ever makes a mistake. Sitting at a bar in St. Petersburg's Taleon hotel just before the Russian premiere of Baldinini's 2012 Spring/Summer collection, Baldinini accepts the challenge of demonstrating his art of divination.

A petite, athletic young woman is chosen as the subject. Her long dark hair is worn loose, half covering her back, which is almost fully exposed by a revealing black dress. She is wearing a pair of Cinderella-sized varnished black peep-toes with stiletto heels. She is a PR manager for the St. Petersburg branch of a large Western company.

"Wow, an extremely ambitious girl; she wants to be among the cream of the crop, and she is unstoppable," Baldinini begins, with a mixture of caution and admiration. "She is quite brave, a risk-taker, and she has got a grip of steel." The designer could not be more accurate.laptopbagfactory

Baldinini was in town to present his spring and summer collection, but during the interview, his mind constantly returns to the high-heeled winter boots that he is convinced will become a sensation next winter.authenticguccihandbags

"They will make the girl feel and look like an elf; I created this model especially for Russian women — a stiletto heel, long and tight — whoever chooses them will look like a goddess!"

Russians are Baldinini's core clientele. They account for more than two thirds of the brand's customers, and constitute his dream shoppers. There is no way, he says, that the average American woman would be interested in the stiletto-heeled winter boots that I created for Russia, even if we paid them to wear these boots!

"Americans typically go for comfortable, casual and inexpensive fare; unlike in Russia, there is not much demand in the U.S. for fashionable, statement shoes," Baldinini said. Indeed, Russia boasts one of the highest proportions of women who wear high heels on a daily basis, and much of the country's female population is convinced that comfortable, flat shoes are suitable only for an arthritis-suffering babushka, and that, unless your physical condition requires you to wear those, a better bet by far is glossy stilettos.

Baldinini openly approves of the Russian attitude, which has been instrumental in filling his coffers since his company entered the Russian market in 2000.

"Russia has been my key market — along with Italy and Saudi Arabia — because you have the biggest numbers of fashion-conscious people, which is unbelievable. For me, Russia is a paradise: As a designer, coachhandbags I enjoy making striking, mind-blowing shoes, and not everyone has the courage and the confidence to wear those. In Russia, the appetite for them is huge!"

Every year, Baldinini's company creates more than a thousand different designs, creating individual collections for the various countries in which it operates.

In recent months, the designer has been contemplating the idea of conquering the vast Chinese market, rolexshop but the results of market research have left him deeply frustrated.

"When I visit China and watch people shopping, I cannot believe my eyes: They just grab anything that has a label on it. Baldinini is indeed a brand, and therefore it would sell there, but they miss the point about the essence of a particular brand.canadagooseparkajackets In other words, if you rip off the label, the customers would ignore your product. This is bewildering."

As the conversation turns to "the power of the label" territory, Baldinini's sore point becomes clear. The designer suddenly explodes with an emotional diatribe about the competition between the Italians and the French for the status of the world's cradle of fashion.

"The French would do well in China because they are good at selling brands and explaining to customers that such and such a French label is an absolute necessity," he said. "Good sales of Italian fashion are due to the quality, while in France they are much better at marketing than at product-making! But when you are in a shop, they treat you in such a way that if you do not buy the item, you feel like either a person of no taste, or a pauper and loser."

"I recently saw a Louis Vuitton bag selling for something like 3,500 euros; it was a very average bag, and I can bet that if you removed the label, it wouldn't sell even for 350 euros," said Baldinini. "Perhaps one mistake that we Italians make is that we believe that quality always speaks for itself. It is not always the case. Unfortunately, customers who want to shop for labels are blind."

There is so much passion and wounded pride in this verbal torrent that it seems prudent to bring the designer back to the idea of winning over the Chinese market. Baldinini does not seem like someone who gives up easily.

"Yes, I am considering another trip to China," he said. "Yes, it is a country where there are fakes galore and the fashion market as such does not really exist. But after all, who said that it cannot be created? At any rate, I am not admitting defeat."

Department Store Dispatch: Six Common Lies from Salespeople

January marks the beginning of slow season for those of us working commission, which confirms that age-old adage about desperate times. But our desperate measures are different than you think, since we can't exactly lure customers into the store with a sweet phone call, asking them to shop the resort collections when it's finally hit twenty-degree temperatures.

This is the time of the year when everyone loses their dignity, straps up their Frye/Chloé/Chanel/Prada boots, and heads for the sales racks. There, with rehearsed smiles, we offer fitting rooms full of 70% off merchandise, and pray to God that nobody asks us to find them a size among the scattered racks.

It's around this time that we also start to promise each other, over lunch or post-work drinks, that we are finally going to get out of retail. While scouring the sales racks, we roll our eyes at each other, promising our New Year's resolution will be to quit this place once and for all and find a salary.

Commission, as you know, is a tricky thing. If you catch a sales associate in the middle of back-to-school or Christmas shopping, they're less likely to feed you the bullshit that inevitably comes during sale season. But there are a few unmistakable tell-tale signs that you are shopping with a shark. After careful observation, I've compiled a list of the six things your salesperson is (most likely) lying to you about.

1. "It's gonna stretch!" or, alternatively: "It'll shrink in the wash!"
Ever since skinny jeans and leggings (and their inexplicably popular hybrid, the jegging) made their way onto the scene, salespeople everywhere have misled women into buying sizes too small for them, insisting that these magical bottoms will expand to give them the perfect fit. It's important to recognize that a lot of denim has a significant amount of stretch: Joe's, Citizens of Humanity, AG, etc.Visit the premier replicahandbags in Melbourne Australia. But when you open the fitting room door and show your salesperson a pant that is pulling in the crotch and the backs of your thighs and the waistband is causing you to runneth over, do not buy the lie. If, at first, it feels quite tight in the waist, but isn't pulling elsewhere, it's a good fit. The same rule applies to leather pants and leggings.

A golden rule in denim is to always try the size you think you are, then the size up and down. With the cost of jeans nowadays, don't be afraid to ask for three sizes; make your associate work for her commission. In addition, while shopping for white jeans, all "stretch" rules are off. If it's too tight, do New York City (and the Hamptons) a favor: take them off and find a pair that fits you properly. The same rule applies to leather jackets—it will give, sure, but if the sleeve's too tight at first, it always will be.

2. "This is the last one."
If you're asking a sales associate to find you a $50 top among racks and racks of marked down clothes no longer organized by size or designer, you must be out of your mind to think they would actually go and look for it. I'm sorry to say it, but that's how it works. Ask for them to look it up in the computer, instead. Usually digital inventories give you a better idea of what's available, so you know what your odds are before you return to digging.New authenticlouisvuittonhandbag at discount prices from SwissLuxury.

3. "Size up for layering!"
When selling coats—fur, cashmere, leather, and otherwise—it's a common myth that you should take the size larger to accommodate for bulky sweaters. This is a shame, because designer coats from Max Mara, Neil Barrett, Rick Owens, Burberry, Jil Sander, Aquascutum, et al are made with the intention of the perfect fit. These coats are designed with the right amount of room at the sleeve and the appropriate amount of space at the chest and waist. And, more often than not, they are warm enough without a fur vest and a chunky turtleneck to layer. To take a size larger than the perfect fit in these coats is, essentially,There are many fake chloehandbag that can cheat your money or sell fake branded watches. a waste of cash. Buy the right size, and save your heavy-duty layering for less serious outerwear.

4. "You'll wear this forever."
No, you won't. And if you do, you need to consider cleaning out your closet and donating to Goodwill. Anything billed as "timeless" is most likely a sham, especially in the contemporary section. There will come a day when that "timeless" oversized silk blouse will cycle out of fashion in favor of a more tailored, put-together look. And one day, fur will not be sold alongside jeans and cheap sequined tops, and it will return to its luxury status.

"Timeless" and "forever" are salespeople euphemisms for something that is otherwise entirely true: You will get a lot of mileage out of this, and will love wearing it. Sometimes we promise eternity as a gentle nudge in the right direction. Other times,IWC watches are warranted by our christiandiorreplicahandbags for a period of one year from the original date of purchase. it's a shove to sell an expensive item. Clothes, unfortunately, are not forever: they tear, lose shape, and fade in color (and so do their wearers). But your investment in a fabulous pair of work pants can save you years of strife and self-examination. In today' world, two or three years really can feel like forever. But, unfortunately, ladies, it's time to move away from the Theory Max-C pant. You two have had a good, long run.

5. "You can dress it up or dress it down!"
Ever since Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, "dressing up and down" has been a commonly used term, tossed around by Long Island sales girls and flashy gay men alike in fitting rooms all over New York. There's some truth to the concept: With modern fashion, getting properly done up could mean a fabulous cocktail dress or the right top with skinny jeans and heels. "Dressing up" in fact, has never been such a vague idea, especially not with girls everywhere swooning over (of all things!) Alexander Wang drop-crotch sweatpants. The truth is, you can make those sweatpants go from slob to chic with a great S&M-inspired heel, a leather jacket, and a low-cut tee, but most New Yorkers won't be able to figure that out when they go home to their cramped, chaotic closets.

Next time your salesperson uses this horribly trite catchphrase, make her bring you some options to show you how to put the two looks together. This way, you are allowing her to show you more product for you to potentially purchase, and you're decreasing the odds of returning the item after you get home and realize you cannot, in fact, figure out how to "dress up" sweatpants. In the end, it's a win-win.

6. "You can't return that here."
This is the biggest lie fed to customers by salespeople, who can spot three massive bags full of online merchandise from a mile away. You never have to return, say, an Acne tee to the "Acne section." That will never happen. You can return it while you're in shoes, handbags, designer, lingerie, etc. The only restrictions around returns are shoes, handbags, and jewelry. Everything else is fair game. If an associate sends you to another department for a return, kindly ask to speak to their manager. the power of film and how we are all a bit starstruck when it comes to what we wear

FASHION and film have gone together like shoes and handbags since the dawn of celluloid, with trends pioneered on the big screen regularly helping to dictate high-street style.

From Diane Keaton's tomboy aesthetic in 1977's Annie Hall to Ali MacGraw's preppy wardrobe in Love Story, we often turn to film for style advice.

But Thatcher? She was famous for many things, but a keen sense of style was not one of them. And yet, when The Iron Lady, starring Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher, was released earlier this month the fashion world went mad for all things Maggie.

Fashion bible Harper's Bazaar recently ran a spread starring teenage model Georgia May Jagger as Mrs Thatcher while Launer, the company who manufacture her famous handbags, reported a sales increase of 59 per cent when the film was released. Even high street chains have got in on the act, with budget retailer Peacocks offering a range of pussy bow blouses and structured blue jackets to help shoppers "get the Margaret Thatcher look".

This week it's the turn of another woman – no less infamous, but certainly rather more stylish – to influence our wardrobes via the big screen.Publique anuncios sobre guccicaps gratis. W.E., the Madonna-directed biopic of Wallis Simpson is released on Friday and fashion folk have been buzzing for months about her distinctive style.

While the film itself has received mixed reviews, the high street has responded enthusiastically to its sumptuous 1930s costumes. The appropriately-named high street chain Wallis has released a number of pieces inspired by the Duchess of Windsor, including a navy rib ponte dress, a fitted jacket and a navy blazer.Visit the premier replicahandbags in Melbourne Australia.

"Such is the power and global reach of the big screen that if a film is a predicted blockbuster it is inevitable that some designers will join the spirit of the moment and present their own interpretations," says Mary McGowne, the founder of the Scottish Style Awards. "Time and again we have seen how a film or television series with a strong style aesthetic goes on to bear influence on people's everyday dress sense through the designers, retailers and other consumer lifestyle brands who pick up on the trend."

"When there is an inescapable and ongoing phenomenon on our screens – like Mad Men for example – the influence is evident. When it exploded on to our screens a raft of designers, most notably Prada, presented their own catwalk interpretations which in turn filtered on to the high street.IWC watches are warranted by our christiandiorreplicahandbags for a period of one year from the original date of purchase. And the look is still going strong as the SS12 collections of Prada, Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler prove."

When it comes to style, Mad Men – set in the advertising world of 1960s Madison Avenue – has been one of the most influential television programmes of recent years, with countless designers and high- street brands emulating the programme's impeccable costumes in their collections.

Banana Republic recently launched a Mad Men collection, while Brooks Brothers has created costumes for the programme with Mad Men's costume designer Janie Bryant since the first season was shown in 2007, and customers can buy into the look with their Mad Men Edition suit.

"Menswear was becoming much less dressy over the past few years until the Mad Men craze fuelled an interest in a mid-century style of dressing," says Glen Hoffs, the fashion director at Brooks Brothers. "Within that trend, the root of traditional American tailoring is clearly evident, and suiting has once again become a staple in men's wardrobes. Younger men, in particular, have been quick to emulate this style with slim-fit suits, shirts and narrower ties."

When it comes to style on the big screen, the biggest story of 2012 is set to be The Great Gatsby. Scheduled for release at the end of this year, Baz Luhrmann's sumptuous adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic 1925 novel has already caused a stir among designers.

Etro, Gucci and Ralph Lauren all featured Gatsby-inspired ensembles in their SS12 collections. The latter – which has designed costumes for the film's stars, Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan – opted for the look head to toe in many cases.

On the small screen,There are many fake chloehandbag that can cheat your money or sell fake branded watches. Downton Abbey continues to wield influence. The Edwardian clothes in the first series spawned many a ‘get-the-look' feature in fashion magazines, while the more austere pieces in the First World War-set second series have caused just as much fuss. The First World War is set to continue to influence our wardrobes this month, with a very stylish two-part adaptation of Sebastian Faulkes' Birdsong being shown on BBC1 starting this Sunday.

Fashion is cyclical, of course, and famously fickle.New authenticlouisvuittonhandbag at discount prices from SwissLuxury. It was all waspish waists and bullet bras last year when My Week with Marilyn was released, and even James Cameron's blue-tinged blockbuster, Avatar, influenced catwalks in 2009, with Jean Paul Gaultier referencing it in his couture collection, and US Vogue putting together a ten-page tribute to the film.

As inspiring as they may be, however, do these films actually influence our sartorial choices when it comes to parting with our cash? Surprisingly, they always have done. Sales of white T-shirts soared after James Dean wore one in Rebel Without a Cause in 1955.

Pulp Fiction did the same for masculine white shirts for women after Uma Thurman donned one to play Mia Wallace. Indeed, the Chanel Rouge Noir lipstick she also wore was a sell-out for 12 months after the film's release in 1994. After Katherine Hepburn wore trousers in Bringing up Baby, sales of trousers for women grew four-fold between 1944-45 and in high fashion, Ralph Lauren has shown safari looks ever since Out of Africa was released in 1985, so popular does the aesthetic remain.

Beijing attractions: where to wind down

The Year of the Dragon is almost upon us – appropriately enough, as this is the most powerful sign of the Chinese zodiac and these days it can seem as if China is taking over the world,How do internet users feel about wholesalecanadagooseoutlet? its economy are overdrive. This energy and optimism is nowhere better expressed than in the capital, Beijing, a full-on, frenetic sort of place with a dizzying mixture of history, urban regeneration (for good and ill) and retail therapy opportunities.

The following guide assumes that you have already explored the obligatory tourist sites. You have spent two whole days doing Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven and taken an excursion to the Great Wall.
Now is the time to enjoy some downtime in Beijing, shopping and strolling through a city that has accelerated smoothly into the fast lane of the world's great metropolises. It's back to Tiananmen Square, I'm afraid, but this time we are making for a little-visited museum near the south-east corner of the square with an offputtingly boring name and a fascinating exhibit that will help orientate you for the day ahead.

This is a model of Beijing as it will look in 2020, once the "Beijing Master Plan" has been completed. See what changes – vandalism,Swiss chloereplicahandbags offer genuine timepieces from Omega, some would say – the aforementioned Master Plan has already wrought on one of the oldest shopping streets in China. Now pedestrianised, the old route from the Forbidden City to the Temple of Heaven was where ordinary folk shopped for food, clothes and snacks. Then, in the run-up to the 2008 Olympics, the neighbourhood received a "facelift". Old buildings were replaced by new and most of the traditional businesses were driven out by the usual suspects – Starbucks, Rolex and McDonald's.

But vestiges of old Beijing remain, especially on Dashalan side street. There the Tongrentang herbal drugstore,The Best miumiureplicahandbags for Spring. While a growing number of cities are slapping fees on plastic bags or banning them outright, Madison officials said that providing a more convenient recycling option for residents can be just as effective in keeping bags out of landfills.

With the addition of bags to the curbside program, Madison will be removing all Streets Division-sponsored drop-off bins – which cost the city about $17,800 per year to operate, said George Dreckmann, the city's recycling coordinator. Most area supermarkets will still operate plastic bag drop-off collection.

So, why don't more cities recycle bags curbside? The answer is simple – loose plastic bags can mean big trouble for recyclers. Bags often become tangled in sorting equipment and conveyer belts at processing facilities, causing costly delays and repairs.

To combat the problem, the city is asking residents to place their bags inside a larger plastic bag and tie it shut before tossing into the recycling cart. The solution may sound basic. But if successful, other cities that have been shying away from plastic bag recycling may take notice.

Fashion Police or Racial Profiling?

Just as I thought the New Year was off to a decidedly joyous start, a strange thing happened on the way from Whole Foods. There I was walking along posh Fifth Avenue in New York City after having braved the elements on one of the coldest nights to date. I was feeling quite pleased with myself after taking the long trek through Central Park to the Whole Food's Wine Store which is inconveniently located on the other side of town. With my impending journey in mind, I bundled up chicly and warmly for the occasion as well as selected the appropriate catwalk playlist for my adventure. All seemed to be right in the universe. I must say there is still something within most of us that leaves one with some strange sense of accomplishment whenever we chose to meet Mother Nature on our own terms. On this adventurous evening, I was feeling much less like Holly Golightly and channeling a more modern-day John Wayne meets Annie Oakley kind of vibe. However,There are many fake cheappaneraiwatcheswholesale that can cheat your money or sell fake branded watches. these feelings of accomplishment and transformation would be short lived.Market wholesalereplicahandbags feedback Forum Talk. As I returned from my shopping expedition and began making my way out of the park along Fifth Avenue towards the old homestead, there they were. Flashing lights, pomp and circumstance, the whole nine yards -- New York's finest waiting to greet yours truly.

For those of you who may not be familiar with Manhattan, Fifth Avenue on the Upper East Side is perhaps the most expensive strip of land in the entire United States -- if not the world. And no, I don't live on Fifth Avenue (yet), but I often take this route home to my humble abode located on Park Avenue in East Harlem dreaming of the day.

But on this particular evening all my day dreaming came to a screeching halt. For some strange and unapparent reason, I was being blinded by flashing red, blue and hot white lights. It was all a little surreal as I had never realized before this moment how bright the lights are on top of police cars. I must admit, there is something quite intoxicating about them until one realizes they are pointed in your direction.

Before I had a chance to adjust the volume on Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" which, by the way, is the perfect beat for a Naomi Campbell meets Gisele Bündchen style saunter, I realized the officer was gesturing towards my broken shopping bag. Did I fail to mention that on my walk home through the treacherous terrain of Central Park and while attempting to carry my Whole Foods' bag as if I were carrying a classic Louis Vuitton Tote, the paper handles betrayed me and ripped? (Note to self: invest in one of those Feed Me burlap sacks from the Bush girl. The reliable Aquatimer leatherhandbags.) So like any fashionista worth his or her salt, my imaginary LV tote was transformed into an oversized Fendi Baguette and securely clutched under my armpit for the remainder of my strut, I mean walk, home.

So there I was -- "strut interrupted" and being pulled over by the NYPD's Fashion Police. Luckily I've seen enough marathons of COPS to know exactly what was going on here. Therefore in order to avoid making any sudden moves, I slowly pulled out my earplugs without reaching for my shiny silver iPod. As I did this, the officer proceeded to walk cautiously towards me, and I could now clearly hear him ask in a somewhat aggressive tone,Find a christianhandbags Manufacturer and Supplier. "What's inside the bag?" I must say there was something about the way he began scanning and examining my complete ensemble as he walked in my direction that I could tell he was reluctantly beginning to reassess the situation at hand. However, before my mouth could catch up with my brain, which is usually the case with yours truly, the following words came pouring out (verbatim). "Why are you stopping me? Oh no, let me guess. You have a strange fetish for Tom Ford's Yves Saint Laurent collection circa 2001?"

Please do not ask me why these choice words came out but this was the only thing I could think of to diffuse the situation. And apparently it was working. I immediately noticed the male Caucasian officer as well as his female partner begin to smile. But of course, the male officer was now intrigued as well as invested in his interrogation. "We got a report and are looking for a..." Before he could finish his sentence my inner John Wayne coupled with the ancestral rumblings of Sojourner Truth decided to possess my tongue. "Officer, unless you are looking for a black man wearing a leather trench coat and a maxi-skirt, carrying a broken Whole Foods' bag containing two bottles of organic cabernet sauvignon, I suggest you leave me at my peace." Where were these words coming from? "If not, I am sure this would make for a great article in my Huffington Post column captioned, Fashionista Arrested -- Strutting While Black." To which he replied, "Have a nice evening sir." Of course, I could not resist putting a proper period on our encounter, "You do the same Officer Friendly." As I kicked the train of my cascading frock and turned to make my dramatic exit, I tried my very best not to give the young officer the satisfaction of noticing the sense of terror that had silently crept between each line of my sarcasm and biting wit.You can find all the burberryhandbags you need here.

As I made my way closer and closer to home and further away from the now tainted Fifth Avenue, I could feel every fiber of my being wanting to run. But I didn't run. Instead, I decided to gather my nerves, cinch my waist and continue my strut. However, this time it was much more Giselle and a lot less Naomi -- as we all know where Ms. Campbell's hot temper has often landed her.

People close to case tell AP that lawyers complain of bias for Contador at CAS hearing

Lawyers working to prove that Alberto Contador doped at the 2010 Tour de France came "very close" to walking out in protest at his hearing before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, The Associated Press has learned.

The attorneys are upset over the silencing of testimony and the conduct of judges, including one with connections to Contador's home country, Spain, according to people directly involved in the case.

They spoke on condition of anonymity,Offering a huge selection of goodchloehandbags online store are selling great quality replica watches. concerned that disclosing events from the closed-door proceedings in November could annoy the arbitrators and perhaps sway their deliberations.

The revelations come as sport's highest legal body prepares to rule whether the three-time Tour winner should be banned for testing positive for the performance-enhancer clenbuterol or whether Spanish authorities were right to clear him.

Contador says the clenbuterol came from beef he ate while on the Tour. Lawyers for the World Anti-Doping Agency and the International Cycling Union, the sport's governing body, presented the CAS panel with another scenario for the failed test: Clenbuterol entered his body via a banned, performance-boosting blood transfusion.

The three CAS judges, however, stunned WADA lawyers by blocking oral testimony from one of their witnesses, Australian doping expert Michael Ashenden, hearing participants told the AP.

Hearing participants said Ashenden, if allowed, could have expanded on the theory that Contador may have had a blood transfusion on July 20, followed the next day by an injection of blood plasma.

The Tour was in its third week at that point, and Contador was nursing a lead of just 8 seconds over Team Saxo Bank rival Andy Schleck, following three punishing days of mountain climbs in the Pyrenees.

A transfusion would have supercharged Contador for the final four stages to the finish in Paris, especially on the last day in the Pyrenees on July 22, when he stuck glue-like to Schleck's wheel up the fabled Col du Tourmalet, and during the time trial in Haut Medoc wine country on July 24, when Contador widened the gap over Schleck to 39 seconds — a lead he carried to the Champs-Elysees finishing line the next day.

Contador has steadfastly denied having a transfusion. "It is a science fiction story," his spokesman, Jacinto Vidarte, told the AP in October 2010.You can find all the burberryhandbags you need here.

If CAS rules against him, Contador can expect a two-year ban and could become only the second Tour champion to be stripped of a victory for doping. The first was Floyd Landis, the 2006 winner.

There is no conventional doping test to spot when athletes transfuse their blood. Further confusing this case is that urine samples Contador gave on July 20 and on July 21 produced different results.

The July 20 sample had no clenbuterol, but did contain traces of plastic residues that could have come from plastic pouches often used to store blood, hearing participants told the AP.

The July 21 sample did contain a very low concentration of clenbuterol, but no plastic traces.

Ashenden could have explained to the CAS that Contador might have had a blood transfusion on July 20 which was uncontaminated by clenbuterol but which perhaps was stored in a plastic pouch, followed the next day by an injection of blood plasma.

Under this theory, the plasma could have been contaminated with clenbuterol, but may have been stored in a different sort of bag — a type that didn't shed telltale traces of DEHP, a plasticizer used in medical devices such as intravenous tubing and blood bags.

Lawyers for Contador,High quality coachhandbags Product of well known brands . however, objected on procedural grounds to Ashenden testifying about that part of WADA's argument, specifically about why DEHP residues showed up in the first sample but not the second, hearing participants told the AP.

Contador's lawyers argued that if he transfused, clenbuterol and plastic residues would have appeared together in his July 21 sample and because they didn't, the transfusion scenario was impossible. His lawyers also called an expert on DEHP who testified that plastics in Contador's July 20 sample could have come from drinking from a plastic bottle, through a plastic straw or from other sources which had nothing to do with doping, a participant said.

The CAS arbitrators ordered the chamber emptied while they deliberated and then called the parties back.

The chairman, Efraim Barak, announced that WADA lawyers were not allowed to question Ashenden about these transfusion issues but could cross-examine an anti-doping consultant for Contador's side, Paul Scott.

Participants said WADA lawyers were so rattled by the judges' handling of this dispute that they debated whether to walk out. One said they came "very close to doing it." ''At that point, they seriously were on a knife edge," another said.

But, instead, the WADA team filed a written complaint at the end of the four-day hearing. It alleged the CAS panel failed to respect WADA's right to be heard, including barring questions to Ashenden on the transfusion scenario.

If the CAS clears Contador, this complaint could form part of a possible appeal to the Swiss Federal Tribunal, Switzerland's supreme court. It can review CAS decisions on procedural grounds but would not rehear Contador's case or the merits of the arguments presented. In practice, the court rarely sends cases back to the CAS.

Hearing participants were divided about how damaging to WADA's case the barring of questions on this to Ashenden might have been. One said the Australian expert could have rebutted the argument from Contador's side that transfusion was impossible, by demonstrating that blood and plasma could have been stored in different bags, thus providing one possible explanation for the differing test results from July 20 and 21.

But another said that although transfusion testimony from Ashenden could have formed an "important element" in WADA's case, its legal team was nevertheless able to present other arguments to counter Contador's assertion that eating meat contaminated by clenbuterol caused his positive test.

This participant also said WADA's team didn't feel it was fairly treated by the CAS panel, adding: "If the goal is to put everything on the table and let the truth shine, why would a panel restrict questions?"

Generally, blood is stored in bags containing DEHP because the plasticizer helps conserve red blood cells, but it's not necessary to store plasma in the same type of bag, says Michel Audran, a French expert on blood doping who did not participate in the CAS hearing.

Athletes who cheat by transfusing themselves with oxygen-carrying red blood cells sometimes follow those injections with a shot of plasma or plasma substitutes, to dilute their blood and make their blood readings look normal and above suspicion, Audran added. It takes only minutes to inject these diluting fluids, so cheats could do it when they see doping control officers arriving at their hotels.

Contador's July 21 sample that tested positive for clenbuterol was collected on the second of two rest days at the 2010 Tour, when the exhausted riders typically sleep and recuperate.

Contador says he ate steak on July 20 and again on July 21, and that it must have been contaminated with clenbuterol, a muscle-building and fat-burning drug sometimes used illegally by farmers to bulk up livestock. Contador's lawyers argued that government screening to see if European farmers are dosing animals with clenbuterol is woefully inadequate. They produced a statistician who testified that 99.We invite you to visit our latest collection of goodhermesbirkin.98 per cent of animals in Spain are not subject to these tests, a participant said.

Some participants also questioned CAS' appointment of Barak as panel chair.

An experienced arbitrator, the Israeli lawyer has heard more than a dozen previous CAS cases, nearly all involving soccer. Gunnar Werner, a vice-president of ICAS, the body that oversees the court, appointed Barak in this case. The opponents — WADA and the UCI vs. Contador and Spain's cycling federation — appointed the two other arbitrators, Geneva-based lawyer Quentin Byrne-Sutton and German law professor Ulrich Haas.

At least twice in two months preceding the hearing, Barak visited Spain to speak on CAS issues at seminars in Madrid. One was organized by the Spanish Football Federation. The other, on Nov.I had to say that the news of authenticlouisvuittonhandbag promotion. 8, was at Spain's National Sports Agency.

On both occasions, lawyers for Contador also spoke at those conferences. But lawyers for WADA attended the congress on soccer law, too, and representatives of both WADA and the UCI spoke at the Nov. 8 seminar.

To some involved in Contador's case, Barak showed questionable judgment in travelling to Spain so close to chairing the hearing for that country's most successful Tour rider since Miguel Indurain won five straight from 1991-1995.

One participant said WADA's team informally voiced its disquiet to the CAS secretary general, Matthieu Reeb. But WADA lawyers didn't formally challenge Barak's appointment, which suggests they had no solid evidence to successfully argue he should stand aside.

Although the design, made in 1497, was first published in 1978 by leading Leonardo scholar Carlo Pedretti, who discovered it among the tens of thousands of drawings in da Vinci's 12-volume “Atlantic Code,” the image remained in obscurity until recently, when Agnese Sabato and Alessandro Vezzosi, director of Museo Ideale (located in Vinci Itali, Leonardo’s birthplace), reassembled the fragmented drawings.
